GTHL Game Review –North York Rangers 1 : 4 Mississauga Rebels – AAA Bantam 05’

The GTHL opening day brought a lot of excitement. A notable game was the one between the North York Rangers and the Mississauga Rebels. Both teams hoped to start the season with a win. And the early minutes of the game showed that commitment.

North York Rangers Review
The Rangers looked really determined at the start of this game. And that determination resulted in a domination of the game in the early minutes. The Rangers opened the score through Ethan Tierman’s clinical score from close range. However, that did not last long as their opponents took control of the game. Therefore, goaltender Gillespie had to make a number of saves. Mathew Ionta was also defending well and he had support from fellow bluelinesmen Adam Power. However, those efforts were futile as the Rebels managed to score two goals in the last 4 minutes of the first period. Goaltender Gillespie was the Ranger’s main player in the first period with a total of 6 saves.

In the 2nd period of the game, the North York side had good control of the biscuit. Gergo Mihalik had a very good chance to score, but his shot was a breadbasket. Since that moment, their opponents took control of the game again and started to mount more pressure on Gillespie. The Rangers were not able to keep up the pace and conceded the 3rd goal in the 9th minute of the 2nd period.

In the final period of the game, the Rangers pushed higher up. Moreover, they had good control of the puck. But that did not help much as the Rebels were solid at the back. They had a number of opportunities but their opponents managed to score a lucky goal and to seal the win. The Rangers played well at that period of the game but they were not able to keep up with the pace of the Rebels.

Also, Watson played really well and made some key tackles in the middle of the ice. The Rebels managed to equalize the score through Cummings in the 11th minute in the first period. The goal inspired the Mississauga side and the scored the 2nd goal through Watson in the 13th minute of the 1st period. It was a complete turnaround for the Rebels in this game.

In the 2nd period, the Rebels were the better team again. They managed to shake off the early pressure from the Rangers. They came close to score on a few occasions. Also, goaltender Morvan made a few crucial saves in the first five minutes of the 2nd period. The Rebels scored the 3rd goal and ended the period with a 3-1 lead.

In the final period of the game, the Rebels had the upper hand. Also, they had better control of the puck. They were always in control and scored the 4th goal in the 9th minute to seal their first win of the season.

Final Thought
Overall, both teams tried their best in this game. The Rangers played well at certain periods of the game. However, the Rebels were more consistent and clinical upfront. They were the better team and they deserved to win.
