GTHL Game Review – Markham Majors 5:1 North York Rangers – AAA Bantam 05’

The GTHL was back in action as the Markham Majors clashed with the North York Rangers at the Thornhill Centre West. The Majors headed into this game after a 4-2 defeat in the game against the Marlboros. And on the other side, the Rangers played a 0-0 in their last game against the Red Wings.

Markham Majors Review
The Rangers started this game in a dominant way as they scored in the 3rd minute of the game through forward Cerpnjak. Also, Ethan Girard defended well and he was supported by fellow defensemen Robert Palermo. Goaltender Quizi made 3 saves but was not able to prevent the Rangers from scoring in the 5th minute. The Majors tried to respond but taking control of the game, but were not able to score.

In the 2nd period of the game, the Majors attempts to score were futile in the first 10 minutes of the game. However, they managed to maintain the high pressing tempo and that resulted in Taeo Artichuk scoring a cheese goal to make it 2-1. A short team celly followed as the Majors looked determined to keep their focus on winning this game.
Therefore, they scored another goal shortly after through Robert Wang. Before, the end of the 2nd period, Gleb Akimov made it 4-1 for the Majors.

In the final period of the game, the Majors were focused on defending their lead. Their defence was dominant and that forced their opponents to throw extra men upfront at the expense of the goaltender. But the Majors took advantage of that and scored the 5th goal which sealed the win for them.

North York Rangers Review
The Rangers started this game with the hope of scoring a win. However, they immediately faced significant pressure from their opponents and conceded a goal. But that did not last long as the Rangers equalized in the 5th minute. Also, goaltender Zein was up to the task as he made 5 saves in the first period.

In the 2nd period of the game, the Rangers faced significantly more pressure and conceded 3 consecutive goals. They were not able to withstand the constant attacks of the Majors and their game plan collapsed during the 2nd period. They had a late attempt to score but that was not enough to change the outcome of the 2nd period.

In the final period of the game, the Rangers tried to get back into the game. They threw everything upfront in order to score, but they were 4-1 down already. That made it significantly harder for them and they even played without a goaltender in order to score. However, their opponents took advantage of that and scored in the 13th minute to seal the win. The Rangers played well in the first period of the game, but collapsed in the 2nd, and cost them the game.

Final Thought 
Both teams started with a determination to get something out of this game. However, Markham outplayed the Rangers and looked tactically superior. Therefore, they scored 3 consecutive goals in the 2nd period and sealed the win in this game.
