GTHL Game Review – Markham Majors 4 : 5 Toronto Marlboros – AAA Bantam 05’

The Markham Majors faced the Toronto Marlboros at the Thornhill Centre West. The Majors headed into this clash after a 4-3 win in the game against the Flyers. And on the other side, the Marlboros won 5-4 in the game against the Vaughan Kings.

The Majors were under severe pressure from the 1st minute of the game. But they had their in-form goaltender Quizzi as he made some key saves. Yet, the promising goaltender was not able to prevent the Marlboros to score in the 10th minute of the game. But that did not last long as forward Logan Durno scored with a tap in seconds later.
A minute later, Andrew Pittini managed to score to make it 2-1 for the Majors. The Markham side completed their remarkable comeback with a goal in the 15th minute of the first period. This time, it was Taeo Artichuk that managed to score after a counter-attack in the final seconds of the 1st period.

In the 2nd period of the game, the Majors faced a totally different Marlboros team. Moreover, they were under constant pressure from their opponents. That resulted with 1 conceded goals for a 3-2 score. Yet again, the Majors showed great character and they scored again through Joseph Macchione. The period ended 4-2 for the Majors.

In the final period of the game, the Majors once again found themselves defending. And they managed to keep the Marlboros at bay up until the 9th minute. From there, the Majors conceded three goals, including 2 goals in the 13th minute. They tried to push for an equalizer but their efforts were futile.

The Marlboros took an early lead in the game. However, they dropped their pace afterwards and conceded three goals in the first period. Also, their goaltender managed to make some key saves. Defencemen Stephen also played a key role in combating the Majors top line. But they were not able to prevent their opponents from making a complete turnaround.

In the 2nd period of the game, the Marlboros managed to pull one goal back. But they conceded a goal a minute later. Their talisman Barlow was slowly growing into this game. His goal was crucial that gave confidence to the team that they can get back into this game.

In the final period of the game, the Marlboros went all in. They were attacking from all sides and they looked energized. Once again, it was wonderkid Barlow that managed to score in the 9th minute to make it 4-3.
A short team celly followed as the Marlboros were eager to restart the game. The momentum was on their side. Therefore, Barlow continued with his domination in the game and managed to score 2 goals in the 13th minute of the final period. That was enough for the Marlboros to sneak a 5-4 win thanks to their talisman captain Barlow.

Final Thoughts
This was one of the best GTHL games so far in the season. Both teams took an offensive approach and both sides went for the win. The Majors deserved to get something out of this game. But in the end, it was Barlow that made the difference in this game.
